Dear blog,

Although I am certain, to a degree, that no single person reads you, I am tempted to return to typing my non-sense ideas upon you. With that in mind, I have a new idea which is most likely especially dumb: There should be a new set of rules in the tax code that caps corporate profit at one billion dollars. If giant companies can only make so much profit and no more, their incentive to continue growing, even at the expense of the welfare of themselves and others, will be removed. That's it. Cap profits. It may seem high or low, but that limit can be raised or lowered over time. The important part is to have it in place as a check to a rampant, capitalist machine that is no longer directed by human interests directly, but directed by it's own machinery. Now, if you are reading this and you disagree, please let me know why in the comments.

i am feeling very disorganized in my mind today. my body is full of both lathargy and spastic energy at the same time. i have decided to not have my daily caffine due to my mind spasms. perhaps a good term for my feeling is disturbed. working for 10 hours sounds like unbearable hell right now, especially considering the prospect of working both saturday and sunday. i wish my mind would calm down and give me peace.
i have a black hat that is in a style called cadet. it is panama jack brand. for some reason, i don't like it today.
I'm trying to stop smoking again. yea right. i thought that if i burned incense instead, it would in some way satisfy my urges for smokey self destruction. we will see how this stupid experiment goes. i have a feeling that it will end the same way as before and next time: smoking and drinking at the tavern by myself, feeling shitty and thinking about all the things that life could be, if only i had the guts to do it finally; the ability to be successful at any one thing. to make an attempt and not fall back on my ass for once.

i am disturbed

a powerful and inexplicable sorrow steals over me. my insides say, "you are intensely sad," but will not say why. could i simply need some fiber-filled fruits and vegetables in my diet? should i only think more of taking a daily vitamin? or, perhaps, something deeply disturbing and horrible is lurking in my subconscious mind (if such a thing exists), telling me that all is not well . . .

Information overload (aka information flood) is a term that is usually used in conjunction with various forms of Computer-mediated communication such as Electronic mail. It refers to the state of having too much information to make a decision or remain informed about a topic. Large amounts of historical information to dig through, a high rate of new information being added, contradictions in available information, a low signal-to-noise ratio making it difficult to identify what information is relevant to the decision, or the lack of a method for comparing and processing different kinds of information can all contribute to this effect. A recent article in the New Scientist claimed that exposing individuals to an information overloaded environment resulted in lower IQ scores than exposing individuals to marijuana. The same article also notes that a night without sleep can be as debilitating as over-exposure to information. The term was coined in 1970 by Alvin Toffler in his book Future Shock.

Information overload is a problem for pilots of fighter aircraft and attack helicopters, as they have to process large amounts of information and make decisions within split seconds.

Related to academic disciplines, chaos, and improving channels for conveying data from one place to another (such as writing, printing, sound and image recording, storage and global networks of broadcasting and communication channels).

A similar term "information pollution" appears to have been coined by Jakob Nielsen and more recently the term "interruption overload" has begun to appear in newspapers such as the Financial Times.

feeling like a ghost; floating through my fathers house, examining all of the pieces that have been filled with memories, not able to touch them. feeling all of the weight of the saddness, but not able to cry. not even feeling the unevenness of the falling-apart rug, or smelling the not so subtle scent of cats and cigars and time. if someone ever had a brain cloud, it's this body so loosely in my command. i pull the strings again, surprised at the ease with which i bring it to life. "get up," the words echo into it's brain, trying to spark the command that will cause the hands to push on the floor, and the whole involuntary sequence of standing up to begin. how did i come to be this thing? how did i come to carry around this body, wearing a cage and waiting for "death"? i guess i could remember, but i don't want to.
i keep this body up all night and all day, trying to wear it out faster? i don't know. it wants to hold your hand and sleep. it wants to be at peace and dream, love and be well. i can tell what it yearns for, but i resist. it wants to hear your music and dance in your arms, smelling your sweet perfumes . . . i try not to listen to it's faint demands. we have to move forward. small goals, one at a time. slowly move forward. no view of the future or memory of the past . . . keep going.

i guess the body forgets what it needs and the soul is concerned with other things . . . but what do i know?

i miss the time when things use to be connected together.
it was fun to be alive.
this place wasn't a prison, but a playground.

is there any way back?

here we go again

so, last week, maybe the week before, i was so terribly depressed by being alive, that i deleted all of my blog entries, closed some accounts (like myspace) and generally tried to remove my self from the internet (which is actually impossible, but you get the point, right?)

now i've decided to start it up again. i hope you're happy.

i'm at my dad's house for a while and i have lots of junk with me, so i can't ride my bike back to iowa city. guess i have to wait for a ride or something.

happy birthday everyone! my calendar on the phone blanked out, so i lost everyone's birthdays, so that's why it might seem like i don't care.

maybe i'll start a daily video blog about riding my bike around the loo. even if nothing fun happens, you can watch me get more sunburned every day.

well, how about that news story, huh? something happened in the world. it's getting dry here, so i haven't mowed the grass in a while. i finished a bit of dish cleaning today and even ate a banana, so . . . well, my life is boring and stupid right now, but if you call me (319 232 6400) sometime, i'll interview you about anything you wish and post it on the blog, and that will be really interesting! i wonder how cole is doing . . . i left her in charge of the info blog and pretty much dropped off the face of the earth as far as craft is concerned. i'm such a ____ . . . sorry. i'll try to not be so dumb.
